Sexual function after EBRT
Sexual function stabilises after two years in men treated with external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) for prostate cancer a new study has found. Where previous studies have shown the gradual decline in sexual function, the new research shows that the majority of sexual function decline occurs in the first two years. The study, appearing in the International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology Physics was of 143 prostate cancer patients treated with EBRT who were tracked over an average of four years. 74.4% of patients who reported their sexual function status before treatment were still potent 1 year after treatment. At 2 years 70.4% were still potent. After the 2-year point no further significant change was observed.
